HOMEWORK POLICY

Homework

Reading
Students are expected to read five times a week (Monday-Thursday and one time over the weekend) for at least 15-20 minutes.  As the year goes on students will be completing a “Thinkmark” to reflect on their reading and practice the skills we are working on in class.

Xtra Math
Students are expected to complete Xtra Math four times a week.  This practice needs to be completed on different days.  (The week for Xtra Math starts on Monday and ends Sunday.)

Other Homework
Usually, there will also be an additional math homework assignment Monday-Thursday.  This typically will be a worksheet or an assignment from the math workbook.  Periodically, there may be a social studies or science assignment.

Weekends
Any homework that is given over the weekend will typically be reading for 15-20 minutes, completing a session of Xtra Math if necessary, and getting specific papers signed (learning log, test, etc.).

Highlighted Work
On some returned work there may be items that are highlighted.  Items that may be highlighted are words that are misspelled that I expect students to be spelling correctly, incomplete sentences, and improper capitalization/punctuation.  The students need to correct these highlighted items for homework and return the paper the next day.
